Tour Itinerary

Emu Run will collect you from outside your Alice Springs accommodation at 7.45am.

Spectacular outback scenery and photo opportunities as we travel along the magnificent West MacDonnell Ranges, stopping at historic sites. Enjoy beautiful walks at Simpsons Gap, Standley Chasm (for morning tea), the Ochre Pits, and Ormiston Gorge for lunch. Our next stop is at Glen Helen, then on our way back to Alice Springs we stop for afternoon time at Ellery Creek Big Hole. This waterhole is one of Central Australia's most pristine, so don't forget your swimmers in the warmer months!

The panoramic landscapes of the West MacDonnell Ranges are extraordinary for their immensity and the spectacular array of sunburnt oranges, maroons and purples on display. These mighty ranges light up in brilliant oranges and reds at sunset on the return trip to Alice Springs.

To finish off the day in thorough outback style, why not take in an optional sunset camel ride, offering sweeping views across the MacDonnell Ranges ($60/person).

For the West Mac tour, at Ormiston Gorge they have the option to do the climb to the lookout or the walk to the waterhole.

Maximum Walks: Hikes up to 6-8kms per day. A reasonable level of fitness is required as there will be some walking to view places of interest. Suitable for soft adventures with a passion for bushwalking and exploring. Passengers must be fit and active.

Booked and paid E-Ticket, water bottle (capacity 1.5-2 litres), strong non-slip walking shoes, hat (wide brimmed is best), flynet, sunglasses, sunscreen, camera, casual and comfortable clothing (cool, light clothing is best in summer and warm clothing for winter), swim wear & towel (during summer only).

Note: Due to limited space on the vehicle please restrict luggage to a day pack and one soft overnight bag/backpack (maximum 10kg).

From October to March it is likely that you will experience temperatures of over 35 degrees Celsius, and sometimes well into the 40's. Be prepared to endure extra physical stress due to the heat at these times, especially while on walks. These extreme temperatures can also place stress on the air-conditioning units within our vehicles which can make travelling uncomfortable. Your tour guide will assist with regular breaks and information to assist keeping hydrated. In July and August, very cold temperatures can be experienced in the outback, especially overnight. Please come prepared for all extremes.

The default pick up point is where we will meet you for your tour, unless you or your travel agent requests an alternative location (contact our Reservations team for more information). It is your responsibility to contact us with your preferred pick up point well ahead of departure. We do not take responsibility for missed tours if we have not been advised of an alternative in advance and you are not at the default location on time.

Passengers with special meal requirements or food allergies MUST ensure they or their travel agent inform Emu Run of this at the time of booking.
Food for the trip is purchased prior to commencement and special requirements cannot be catered for after departing.
Due to the nature of our trips food is basic but plentiful.
We provide healthy, quality meals on our tours. We are able to cater for one of the following special dietary requests upon request: vegetarian, gluten free or dairy free. If you have a food allergy (eg peanuts) please advise at the time of booking and carry any necessary medication with you on tour. An additional charge of $25 pp will apply for vegetarian or dairy free, this is payable direct to Emu Run.
