ITINERARY

Day 1 Mount Wellington and the Central Plateau
DEFAULT PICK UP: Hobart Central YHA (formerly Montgomerys YHA), 08:00am
Our trip begins with an early morning drive from Hobart to the summit of Mount Wellington. Enjoy views of beautiful Hobart and panoramic views of Tasmania. Take a deep breath and fill your lungs with the fresh Tasmanian air - some of the freshest and cleanest in the world as a matter of fact! This morning we spend time at the infamous MONA Museum - take in the weird and wonderful works of artists from all over the globe. After lunch we hit the scenic roads and travel via Bothwell to the Great Lake and the Central Plateau. By late afternoon we reach the Ouse River; keep your eyes peeled for the wild trout in the river, and perhaps you might see some of the local wildlife venturing out for feeding time. This evening we spend the night at our exclusive accommodation next to Lake Augusta. (D)

Day 2 Lake St Clair and Queenstown
This morning we enjoy breakfast before passing through Bronte Park and onto beautiful Lake St Clair where we take a scenic stroll. If it's a still morning, the glass-like appearance of the lake will leave you questioning if the sky is up or down! Heading west, we wander through the Franklin Gordin Wild Rivers National Park. Stretch your legs and take a walk to Donaghy's lookout, the Franklin River is truly breathtaking and dominates the landscape, it will leave you feeling revived and humbled. This afternoon we pass through Queenstown, hear about the strange moonscape that became of the land and the history of copper mining in the area. We stop in at Ocean Beach which has been dubbed 'one of the loneliest places on earth' the chilly breeze that sweeps across your cheeks comes straight from Antarctica. After a visit to picturesque Hogarth Falls, we settle in for the evening at Strahan, a quaint little seaside town with charm to match. Perhaps you might like some local entertainment for the evening at a locally produced short play; 'The Ship that Never Was'. (B)

Day 3 The Tarkine
This morning we cruise past the rolling Henty Sand Dunes, dig your heels in and climb to the top! We head through the historic town of Zeehan and onto Corinna, the southern gateway to the Tarkine. Truly one of the most remarkable places amongst the Tasmanian wilderness, the Tarkine is an untouched network of delicate rivers and tangled rainforests. Enjoy the beauty of this UNESCO World heritage site from any perspective you wish, whether it be an optional Pieman River Cruise, explore from the water on a Kayak adventure (both at own expense), or take a stroll along the rainforest walking tracks. As we continue our journey we pass by Savage River and Philosopher Falls, en route to Cradle Mountain National Park. (BD)

Day 4 Cradle Mountain
Today we journey 950m above sea level to Cradle Valley, our gateway to the World Heritage Area of Cradle Mountain National Park. We share some local knowledge and interpretation of the landscape to help you choose a walk to take. With an extensive range of tracks, you will be able to take it easy with a stroll around Dove Lake or one of the many boardwalk tracks, or perhaps challenge yourself with a hike to Marions Lookout. Next we take a short drive to Mole Creek, maybe pick up a jar of the delicious local honey. We visit 'the Tiger Bar' and Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary and learn about these feisty but lovable creatures and what threats are posed to their existence. We take a short walk at Alum Cliffs before continuing on to Launceston; Australias third oldest city and our overnight stop. (B)

Day 5 Bicheno and the Bay of Fires
Feeling refreshed from our day spent at Cradle Mountain, we make our way via Scottsdale to Columbia Falls and the Pyengana cheese makers. Pick up some crackers and some locally produced cheese if you fancy! Our next stop is the East Coast and the beautiful Bay of Fires. Here we stretch our legs and take some quality time to enjoy this highly regarded coastal region. The beaches are gleaming and the water inviting, so jump in and enjoy a swim if conditions permit. Enjoy Tasmanias most scenic coastal drive from St Helens to Bicheno, where we stay tonight. This evening you can join a guided viewing of the Little Penguins as they return to their rookeries on the edges of this seaside village (optional, seasonal and at own expense). (B)

Day 6 Wineglass Bay
An early start means we are the first to the lookout, beating the crowds and the heat for that postcard photo of Wineglass Bay. Relax on the secluded beach or choose the more challenging Mt Amos or Hazzards Beach walk for your morning Freycinet experience. This afternoon we make a quick stop at Kates Berry Farm before we cross the unique and frankly bizarre Spikey Bridge. We pass through the historic village of Richmond before arriving back into Hobart. (B)
